I Was A Bob…

Have you ever seen the movie Office Space?
It was a cult-classic especially among the consultant ranks.
When I worked as a healthcare consultant, I was definitely one of the “Bob’s.”
I cringed as the movie accurately echoed a go-to question, “so, what would you say you do around here?” 😝
I used to work with large university hospitals and would interview entire departments. My job was to figure out the strengths, weaknesses, attitudes, and aptitudes of the individual team members. Entire departments were then reorganized so that 1.) individuals aligned better with their skill-set and expertise, and 2.) teams were optimized in a way that was best for the organization overall.
We dubbed this process the “Re-Org.”
Traditionally during the Re-Org, we established pyramid hierarchical organizational structures.
But, as I entered the aesthetic world and began consulting aesthetic businesses, I adopted a new way of thinking.
I now prefer to structure practices with a circular organizational structure- meaning that your business is structured with clients at the CENTER and team members form concentric circles around them.
I know this requires a shift in mindset, but it allows you to place members of your team who will serve your clients the best closest to them.
Not only will this lend itself to enhanced client experiences, but it will also promote communication and the free flow of information between different parts of your organization.
